La selezione “mani” gioca sul simbolismo delle mani su due livelli principali: come soggetto e gesto. Da un lato, le mani, come oggetto, simboleggiano il processo di creazione e sono connesse con il lavoro e cibo. In altro modo sono anche simbolo di amore, passione e il tatto affettivo. La mano sinistra in alcune culture simboleggia la grazia e femminilità, quella di destra è un simbolo di virilità e forza. I gesti, come forma primaria di comunicazione non verbale, rappresentano sentimenti e relazioni diverse tra le persone, e tra uomini e del mondo. Nel contesto della video arte, le mani sono oggetto di molte interpretazioni concettuali. La selezione “hands” è un tentativo di illustrarne alcune di esse”. Pavlina Mladenova

Pavlina Mladenova is a multidisciplinary art researcher and independent curator.  She graduated in Marketing from the Varna University of Economics, with focus visual arts. As a researcher she examines the multi-layered relationship between “art” and “marketing communication for art”, using a variety of media and experimenting with various means of impacting connections in the two-way chain of “public” and “art”. With research projects she has been awarded residency grants India, South Korea and Italy. Among her recent  research projects are “Kochu Drawing” & “Families Archive” (South Korea, 2011); “First Contact” (South Korea, 2011 – 10); “Dimensions of Motion” (South Korea, 2010); “Words (Re)Research” (Italy, 2008); “Marketing Communications For Art’s Sake” (Italy, 2008). As a curator she focuses in video art. She is Co-Founder, Co-Director and Co-Curator of the Videoholica Festival in Varna, Bulgaria since its inception in 2008. Her curatorial projects have been presented in Bulgaria, Italy, Ukraine, Greece and South Korea.
